This episode debuted to 6.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated premiere for a new basic cable series in 2006. It also became the most watched pilot in USA Network history.
The character of Lucinda (Anne Dudek) had a negative response from the test audience and was removed after the first episode. The character was replaced after this episode with Juliet O'Hara (Maggie Lawson) who lasted to the end of the series.
Despite being set in Santa Barbara, California, a vast majority of the show is filmed in various locations across the British Colombian Lower Mainland. The Psych office is set in White Rock, BC which bears remarkable similarity to the Santa Barbara coast. The office set can be seen when one takes a walk along the beach in White Rock. You will see the real Santa Barbara in various bird's eye shots and a few street level establishing shots.
