Storyline
Plot Summary |
Poirot and Miss Lemon travel to Surrey to visit Miss Amelia Barrowby but arrive to learn that she has died during the night. Poirot had an odd encounter with her the previous day at a flower show when she made the odd gesture of giving him an empty seed packet. Upon returning home, he finds that she has written him seeking his assistance. Poirot suspects foul play and the pathologist confirms that the woman was poisoned with strychnine. Initial suspects are Miss Barrowby's niece and her husband, but when the dead woman's Russian companion runs away, Inspector Japp thinks he has the culprit. Poirot thinks otherwise. Trivia | The red 'WTF' on the Chelsea Flower Show ticket means that the ticket is for admission on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday only. It was the cheaper ticket for the end days of the show, when the flowers were usually past their best. See more » |
Goofs | "Regimirov" is not a correct last name for a Russian woman. Most Russian family names originated from patronymics, that is, that father's name usually formed by adding the adjective suffix -ova or -eva for a female. (Peter or Petrov, Ilya or Ilyov for sons, Petrova or Ilyova for daughters). Contemporary patronymics have a -na for female names. For instance, if a single woman's father's last name was Ivanov or Petrov, her last name would be Ivanova or Petrova. So technically, Katrina's last name should have been Regimirova. See more » |
Quotes |
Chief Inspector Japp:
We're doing our own little test right now. Down at the mortuary. Perhaps you'd rather wait in the taxi, Miss Lemon. Miss Lemon: No, thank you. I did help in the hospital morgue during the war. Hercule Poirot: More filing, Miss Lemon? Miss Lemon: Mister Poirot! See more » |
