A.D.A. Petrovic: She's sitting in your office, you examine her, you don't see menopause. Now you're asking this jury to accept the premise that her symptoms were so extreme they can excuse murder.

Dr. Jill Brock: Her symptoms were extreme. This is a hormonal imbalance that can definitely affect the mind, Mr. Petrovic. It can cause women to become different people. In extreme situations, it can even cause episodes of insanity.

A.D.A. Petrovic: By extreme, you mean remote, right, Doctor? Very rare.

Dr. Jill Brock: It had happened to her.

A.D.A. Petrovic: How can you say that with any medical certainty?

Dr. Jill Brock: She flattened her husband with a steamroller. What is that if not insane?

A.D.A. Petrovic: Oh, so murder is proof of insanity. I guess we should let all killers go. They're all crazy.

    Wambaugh Strikes Again
Interesting offering where a forty year old woman, ready to divorce her husband, runs over him with a steamroller after hitting him with a shovel. She goes on trial with an insanity defense based on her going through menopause and losing control. There is the usual jockeying back and forth by the sheriff and his family. Douglas Wambaugh continues to be one of the most acerbic characters in TV history. The conclusion is fun but it has been done many times before.
