Storyline

Perry Mason is hired by Lucille Forrest to look into the death of her son, Dick, some two years before. Lucille has been away for a year and most believe she went to Europe immediately after the death of her husband. She was his maid who he married ten years earlier and left her a wealthy heiress. In fact, she's been living in Chicago trying to earn enough money to live on without having to use one cent of the money her husband left her in his will. She's convinced that her son was murdered but her husband left a clause in the will stating that the trustee could withhold any of the proceeds if Lucille initiates any type of investigation about Dick's death. He and friends were on a hunting trip where he was found shot with his own gun, in a fence. She tells Paul Drake that Ralph Day is responsible and, when he is found to have been poisoned with rattlesnake poison, she is charged with murder as she kept the venom for her own use. Several people may have had reason to want Day out of ... Written by garykmcd

Too much fluff
28 November 2011 | by kfo9494See all my reviews

Here is one of those episodes where you kinda root for Perry's client to be guilty. Lucille Forrest (Francis Reid) is an unsympathetic victim in this case. Even though she has had a terrible chain of events with her son death and her husband's death, she at least could have been cast with some charm. Instead we get a tired old women that I sure would yell at any child that got on her lawn.

On with the story- Her son Dick had died in a hunting accident in a small town named Forrest Junction. This is a town where everyone knows everyone and no one is a stranger. Anyway Ms Forrest has always thought her son was murdered. After her husband died she left town for about a year and the episode picks up when she returns to the little town.

Her husband left her a lot of money. and in his will there was a clause saying that she forfeiting the money if she had anyone else look into the death Dick. (He did this to try to get Lucille, his wife, over the death) But now she is back and hires Perry to look into the death.

Along the way she opens up old wounds in this small town. The person she thinks killed her son, Dick, happens to be over at her house and dies from a poison drink. And the person that served the drink which had the poison was Lucille. So now Perry has a new case that the DA's office says is murder.

This episode, even though started out well, kind of faded in the middle. First, as a viewer, I really did not like how the writer's wrote the character of Lucille. She was too much of a witch so I could not get behind her cause of justice. And then you had so many mini-plots that seemed to point to a person only to find it had nothing to do with the ending. Way too much fluff for me.

There was some good scenes with Perry and Hamilton Burger in the courtroom. But little else is remarkable about this episode.

This was not my favorite but far from the worse. Middle of the pack show for sure.
