A two-year-old cold case involving a missing naval officer heats up when a reward-seeking private investigator finds the body. NCIS is on the case, while Kate gets particularly close to the suspect.

Two years ago a Navy lieutenant and his car disappeared without a trace. The wealthy family of the officer, a fighter pilot, offered a reward of $1M. Now a PI, seeking the reward, finds the car on the bottom of a lake; the car contains skeletal remains, which prove to be those of the missing man. Gibbs and company investigate; McGee says that the death was not an accident; Gibbs and Tony consult with a psychic, and they save her from a certain death. Abby finds a coincidence; Kate goes on a dress-up dinner date, but she does not get to eat dessert (until later in New York City). With more help from Abby, Gibbs realizes that the disappearance really was an accident, but he still arrests someone for attempted murder.—DocRushing

A two-year-old cold case is reactivated when celebrity private investigator Monroe Cooper finds a car matching the missing officer's car at the bottom of Black Lake. The officer was part of the wealthy McAllister family who offered a $1M reward for the person responsible for solving the case of the fighter pilot's disappearance. The car is brought up with the skeleton of the victim in the driver's seat. The plate matches his car and the dental work matches his medical records. The NCIS crew carefully comb the car for evidence that might shed light on the case. McGee finds a 45 caliber round lodged in the passenger's side front door. Abby's construction of the bullet's trajectory suggests that it would have penetrated the driver's torso before impacting in the door. Gibbs instructs everyone to begin checking into people who stood to gain from the officer's death. The two main suspects are a psychic who was engaged by the grieving father after his son went missing and brother Thomas who has established his own airline company. Cait is assigned to worm her way into Thomas's activities. She finds him a nice guy who is intimately involved in the maintenance of his aircraft. Gibbs goes after psychic Sallena Lockhart who claims she has had conversations with the dead man. As he is taking her to her dressing trailer while filming a TV show, someone is out to kill her. Gibbs sees the laser dot from the gun-sight on her forehead and tackles her just in time. The slug matches the bullet found in the car. This suggests that Thomas is the most likely suspect. When they go to the McAllister residence, they find Cooper is there, too. He was trying to return the gun to the McAllister collection for Gibbs to find it there. It turns out the reward would only be given if the case involved a murder. So Cooper took a shot of the car after he found it so that it would be construed as a murder case. Instead, he arrested for trying to kill Lockhart. Cait is delighted to learn the Thomas was not implicated in the case. She is able to go on a dinner date with him, getting there on a flight in his newest airliner.—Garon Smith
