Brighton is asked to a dance by his friend and geeky science partner, Brooke. Not wanting to look uncool to the other kids, he flatly turns her down. But Brooke blackmails him into taking her by threatening to pull out from her part of the homework, which basically is all the work. After all is said and done, Brighton is glad to go with her when he sees Brooke in her party attire. Regardless, Fran is angry with Brighton for what she sees as treating a classmate poorly. Fran has to eat her words when she and Brighton run into Jeffrey Needleman, who Fran similarly snubbed back in high school. For Jeffrey, it was unrequited love back in high school.
