Shortly after reputed scandal 'biographer' Jane Dawson announces the release of her book on Jessica's friend, movie actress Ellen Lombard, her husband, Arthur Brent, is seen running out of her house, where they her electrocuted in the bath. Jessica believes he found her already dead and tries to prove his innocence by piecing together the book research, family history and forensics.
In New York City, Jessica is drawn into investigating the murder of Jane Dawson, a writer of tell-all biographies. Her latest target is Jessica's good friend Ellen Lombard, a once famous Hollywood actress but now living outside of the public eye. Dawson has gotten her hands on Lombard's medical records and will be describing her as a lush and a prescription drug addict. Dawson is found electrocuted in her bathtub and Lombard's husband Arthur Brent is seen running out of the house just as Dawson's sister Beth found her body. Arthur insists that he found her dead in the tub and Jessica believes him. Beth has a secret that Jessica will uncover as she solves the case.
