Once again, a reluctant Jessica is drawn into Michael Hagarty's spy world when a retiring KGB agent hides a coded list of undercover MI6 agents in her book at a Trade Reception.

US Congressman Arthur Prouty insists that Jessica attend a Washington trade reception where he can hand her a copy of his own fly-fishing book. Actually, a short encrypted note is slipped into it by Soviet embassy trade representative Yuri Lermentov. At night, he slips into her hotel suite to retrieve it, but is killed by someone else. Jessica and police Lt. Blaisdell get little out of her British intelligence friend Michael Hagarty, who was in rough negotiations for a crucial list with Lermontov. He's arrested, leaving Jessica to find and trap the killer.—KGF Vissers

On a visit to Washington D.C., Jessica runs into her old friend, MI-06 agent Michael Hagarty. He's obviously on the job, using a false name and presenting himself as a representative of South African diamond interests. Hagarty has been working with KGB agent Yuri Lementov who has a list of British agents who are at risk of exposure. Yuri hides the list in a book that is subsequently given to Jessica as a gift. Imagine Jessica's surprise when Lementov is found dead in the living room of her hotel suite. She concludes that Lementov was likely trying to get the list back but the police believe Hagarty is responsible. A slip of the tongue by one of the many suspects is all Jessica needs to identify the killer.—garykmcd

Jessica goes to Washington to visit a Congressman who's a friend. She runs into British agent Michael Hagarty who is there on a mission; to make sure a list of British agents doesn't fall into the wrong hands. It seems like a Russian, Yuri Lermentov, whom Hagarty knows, got the list and is offering it to anyone who makes him the best offer. When he goes to a party which Jessica is also attending he places the list in a book she has. Later, he goes into her room to retrieve it but someone bludgeons him to death. When the police investigate, they consider Hagarty a person of interest and try to arrest him but he gets away. He later goes to Jessica and tells her what's going on and to be careful because it's obvious that someone is willing to kill to get the list.—rcs0411@yahoo.com
