The episode opens with an introduction by Orson Welles. It was his last time in front of a camera; he died 5 days before the episode was broadcast. His name didn't appear in the opening or end credits, but a caption card at the beginning read "This program is dedicated to the memory of Orson Welles 1915-1985".

"Moonlighting" takes a great leap backward

Part of what we "Moonlighting"-ers loved in the day was its groundbreakingness. Another thing was its daringness. Here we have the daring of doing part of this episode in "black and white" (actually a misnomer; like people, this sort of photography is actually in shades of gray).

After an introduction by the great Orson Welles, our heroes Maddie and David find themselves in a closed nightclub where an unsolved murder took place in the 1940s.

After an argument in a driving scene over the killer, each has a monochrome dream defending his/her position. Naturally, hers is romantic; his, comic.

I wish Orson, so soon to die, had been more involved.
