Hakeem asks Charisse (Kellie Shanygne Williams) for a date and says he'll take her home to mama, she says "How sweet" and turns him down, but says they can dance to the next song. Hakeem then tells Antonio "First I was cute now I'm sweet, I'm wearing her down". That was a nod to Family Matters (1989) ,when Steve Urkel (Jaleel White) often says to Laura (also played by Williams) "I'm wearing you down baby" when seems to be a little nicer to him than usual. Jo Marie Payton who played Harriet Winslow also had a recurring role as Hakeem's mom.
