Series 8 Episode 7
Arthur and Ray, in the lock up, are selling bracies to Billy from Bradford. Later at the
Winchester, Arthur tells Ray he will be travelling with Billy, but doesn't say where.
Later Billy tells Ray he is to mind a racing pigeon, Young Sam. Young Sam has been entered into
a race against a rival owned by Billy's former pigeon racing partner, Stan Sorrell. Ray's job
is to return to London from Bradford with Stan's nominated minder and they will both release
the pigeon's at the same time. Ray is annoyed at the news.
Later in a pub, Ray meets Stan Sorrell and he and Billy tell Ray the pigeon race is for a
£10,000 bet. Ray also spots a woman, Donna, sitting with friends at a table and he approaches.
Ray leaves with Donna and they go to a resturant. In the morning Ray arrives at Foster Square
Station to meet Billy. Stan's nominated pigeon minder arrives and is revealed to be Donna, who
is Stan's daughter.
Billy phones Arthur in London, insisting he meet Ray at King's Cross Station. Arthur waits for
the train but Ray and Donna are absent. Arthur calls Billy to inform him. Billy panics, urging
Arthur to find Ray and Donna. Billy calls Stan to tell him Ray and Donna are missing.
Arthur goes to Ray's home, which is empty but the pigeon's are there in a basket. He takes the
basket to Primrose Hill and phones Billy, intending to liberate them and begin the race. Billy
insists he doesn't without Ray and Donna present as witness. Billy says he will forfeit the
race and probably be expelled from the racing club.
Ray is showing Donna around London. Ray's parents tell Arthur he has introduced them to Donna.
Arthur visits various bars and clubs looking for Ray and Donna and eventually finds them in a
nightclub. He tells them off and and says they must start the race. Donna says they can't race at
night and must wait until morning. Arthur leaves to feed the pigeons. Donna tells Ray they
can't eat before the race and go to stop him.
In the lock up while trying to feed the pigeons Stan's escapes. Ray arrives to lock Billy's
pigeon in the basket. Ray tells Arthur he loves Donna, which Arthur dismisses. Later Arthur and
Ray are sleeping in Arthur's office. A business associate, Nostalgic, arrives. They notice the
door is open and assume the pigeon has escaped. Arthur phones Billy to delay the start of the
race and he and Ray get a train to Bradford with the plan to capture a replacement to take back
to London to release for the race, certain it will fly back to Bradford. Ray tells Arthur he is
thinking of moving to Bradford with Donna. Arthur disapproves and phones Nostalgic.
Arthur and Ray capture a pigeon in Bradford. Ray is concerned he can't contact Donna back in
London. Billy phones Dave, looking for Arthur. In the Winchester, Nostalgic is drinking with
Donna. Arthur finally speaks to Billy and Stan on the phone. He tells them he can't start the
race as Donna is missing. Dave tells Ray he saw Donna with Nostalgic. Donna has moved her
luggage out of Ray's home. They finally find Donna with Nostalgic in his favourite club. Ray
confronts Donna and she reacts angrily. Arthur steps in to calm them both and they are thown
out, along with Nostalgic.
In the morning Ray tries to apologise but Donna says they are over and wants the race started so
she can return to Bradford. Stan's pigeon is sitting on top of the basket, with the replacement
inside with Billy's pigeon. Arthur tells Donna if she ignores this hiccup he won't mention to
her father what she has been up to whilst in London. She sgrees. They start the race from the
top of a building, but the third pigeon can't fly and plummets down.
Later at the Winchester it is revealed Arthur asked Nostalgic to take Donna out, to break up her
and Ray. Dave is unimpressed. Arthur insists he only had Ray's best interests at heart. Billy's
pigeon wins the race. Arthur is pleased as he had placed a bet for it to win. Ray arrives looking
despondent after Donna left. Arthur tells him to forget it as they have new business together
in their future.
