Walter Findlay: [to Maude] Sweetheart, would it disappoint you too much to learn that becoming a father was never one of my life's ambitions? I-I don't know why. For years I used to feel guilty about it. For years people told me I was nuts or too selfish. How can I not love kids? Well I do love kids, but they don't have to be mine. That's probably the worst confession I'll ever make. Do ya hate me?

    Maude Makes Her Decision
Maude thinks Walter wants the baby and he decides to have a vasectomy.

Part 2 continues the still controversial story of Maude thinking of abortion. It is an interesting story but not a lot of laughs. Maude is visited by a friend with 4 kids and now expecting another. She is played by character actress Elizabeth Fraser (she was Shelley Winters pal in "A Patch Of Blue"). Walter and Arthur have some amusing moments as they discuss the vasectomy. He meets a friend of Arthur's who had one (Robert Mandan, his first appearance on the show and later on "Soap"). Walter cancels his surgery and is afraid to tell Maude. They both decide that they should not be parents at their age for the final scene which caused the most controversy at the time.
