Trivia

The series and the fledgling Fox network were little known until the season three episode "Her Cups Runneth Over" which Michigan housewife and "family values" activist Terry Rakolta found so offensive that she began a letter-writing campaign to the show's sponsors to try to get them to withdraw their sponsorship and for Fox to drop the show. A few sponsors did cancel their commercials, but her efforts had exactly the opposite effect she wanted: the story spread like wildfire and resulted in a huge jump in the ratings for the show. It made "Married with Children" a major hit and put Fox Network on the map. See more »

Quotes

Vicky: Excuse me, sir. Are you straight?
Al Bundy: The hairs on my chest are.
Vicky: Good, maybe you can help me. If you were my boyfriend, would you like this?
[opens curtains to show Al her lingerie. Al is speechless]
Vicky: Will he like it?
[Al nods]
Vicky: Or do you think he'd like it better without the bra? Like this...
[takes off bra. Al faints]
Vicky: Yep, without the bra.

Brought Controversy!
28 May 2009 | by See all my reviews

This episode has Peggy upset that her bras are being discontinued and it's difficult to buy in Chicago. Marcy tries to help her in her time of need for her birthday. Steve suggests a place in Wisconsin. The thought of having to hold Peggy has Al driving them there. It's a lingerie shop like Frederick's of Hollywood with a lot more surprises. Al tries to get his wife's bra and the saleswoman assumes that Al and Steve are a gay couple which offends Steve. Al makes some comments about the women and it's obviously offensive in 1989. It is now considered quite tame today. I thought the episode was pushing the buttons of the show but still it makes me laugh and that's all I want to do is laugh now and then.
