Very clever

Warning: Spoilers
This is a very cleverly done episode. It alternates between two time-lines: one where Lois takes Malcolm and Reese bowling, and one where Hal takes them. The other parent stays home with Dewey, who is being punished and must go to bed early and stay there. It's fascinating to see the differences in each scenario, and how in many ways, the experience ends up being the same after all. Who wins in this episode?

Unique and Bold but paid off

Warning: Spoilers
This episode went for a cool and unique idea of showing two different timelines of each parent taking the kids out bowling. This allows the writers to show off the relationship the boys have with Lois and Hal really well, and makes for a great ending line of "you're taking them next time!". The brilliance of this episode is not just the unique concept but also the humour which always seems to land and the good pacing and structure having to be juggled between two stories, which makes for no easy task. This makes for a brilliant episode which is without a doubt my favourite.
