Trivia
Magnum tosses a penny into the quiver of the statue of Tecumseh at Annapolis and gives it a left-handed salute. It is a bronze, based on the wooden figurehead of the ship Delaware, portraying Tamanend, who welcomed William Penn when he arrived in Delaware territory. when for the ship Delaware, which had been sunk to keep it from Confederate hands. Midshipmen gave the statue various names over the decades, with it finally becoming known as Tecumseh. After forty years, the frequently repaired wooden figurehead was replaced with the bronze statue that is seen in this story. To commemorate various events throughout the year, the statue is decorated and given war paint. Tecumseh is humorously referred to as "the god of 2.0" which is the minimum passing grade for midshipmen.

The plaque for Magnum's father in Annapolis indicated that he graduated in 1946 and died in 1950 as a Lieutenant Commander. It is not possible for him to have reached that rank (0-4) in only four years.

Until now I had never seen the finale of the series (gotta level re-runs) and I was so disappointed. Frankly from the beginning of season 7 I've been disappointed with the writing so I can't be too surprised with the conclusion. I'd have to dig deep to figure out if it was directors, writers, or something else that caused the change, but the stories just changed. This actually happened to a lot of shows in the 80s where they tried to change what had been working and totally missed.
The story tried to pull together many things of the series, but threw in things that were completely new (grandfather). It's sad because for what was an exceptional series to have fallen in the end is sad.
