Storyline

U.S. Senator Rhodes asks Mac to help his daughter Chris on the Virgin Islands to get back the diamonds which got stolen by Daniel Sims, the accountant he hired for his African famine charity and got shot himself by his accomplice Catlin, a former mercenary, who runs a hotel and casino on the Virgin Islands. Mac decides to steal the rocks back from his casino's top-security vault, which he plans to infiltrate, for once in Bond style (tuxedo), by cheating and asking his considerable winnings to be stored there. Catlin was warned and spots his tricked dice, but after a daring escape they return by the back-door with an elaborate diversion, at least Mac has learned the stones are not in the official vault but the private one in Catlin's office. However there are more surprises on both sides.. Written by KGF Vissers

Saved by MacGyver's charisma

In the fifth episode of MacGyver, he has to go and steal some diamonds back from a shady casino owner. And even though the episode shows all the traits of a typical MacGyver episode, it is sub-par and just saved by Richard Dean Anderson's acting and charisma.

It is not that the episode is bad per se. MacGyver doing a little bit of a James Bond impersonation in a casino, stealing some diamonds, and giving a lesson to the shady casino owner makes for a fun enough episode. But the invents are not very interesting, and just seem to be there to fill time, as we have seen them all before, and MacGyver doesn't stretch his mental muscles at all. It is also strangely paced, slow and on little bursts of action. On top of that, the bad-guy-of-the-week is not especially interesting or menacing.

A good enough episode, but not as good as one should expect from MacGyver.
