Trama

The 4077th takes in Nurse Cratty's Korean orphans during a shelling attack, including a pregnant girl with a bullet wound. But Frank accuses one of the orphans of stealing his newly (and dubiously) awarded Purple Heart.

Potter thinks Hawkeye is a pip, as he has a comeback for everything. But Frank's Purple Heart (for an egg fragment in his eye) is no joke and Hawkeye does not find it funny. Civilian Nurse Meg Cratty (Ann Doran) and her orphans are being shelled; like Blake, Col. Potter is happy to extend the hospitality of the 4077 to Nurse Cratty, her kids and Sung Lee, a pregnant girl who stopped to see her in-laws. All tents (and most hearts) are opened as the kids are bedded down all over the camp. The pregnant Sung Lee stumbles in, shot by a sniper; BJ, fresh from residency, gets to do the Caesarian. Frank is obsessed with thievery; the featherweight Father has to wrestle him to scrub. When Frank finds his Purple Heart is missing, he suspects one of the kids. But, Hawkeye and BJ believe any baby who is shot in the rump on his own birthday is much more worthy and deserving of the honor. Margaret watches the entire ceremony, grinning from ear to ear. As Nurse Cratty and her brood leave, they are kissed and cuddled; the kids have made a very tired bunch of overworked heroes feel human again.—LA-Lawyer

But Frank's Purple Heart (for an egg fragment in his eye, while the camp was under sniper fire.. in his form, Frank listed that as a shell fragment which was very misleading) is no joke and Hawkeye does not find it funny. Hawkeye says that the purple hearts is for kids who get shot for real.

Civilian Nurse Meg Cratty (Ann Doran) (who runs a civilian orphanage about 30 miles away from the 4077th MASH) and her orphans are being shelled; like Blake, Col. Potter is happy to extend the hospitality of the 4077 to Nurse Cratty, her kids and Sung Lee, a pregnant girl who stopped to see her in-laws. All tents (and most hearts) are opened as the kids are bedded down all over the camp. Houlihan is in charge of the sleeping arrangements for the kids. Some of the kids have missing limbs and Cratty explains that the kids hunt for shells to sell for brass. sometimes they catch a live one. Frank is in charge of vaccinations for the entire group of kids. Trapper tells a story to the kids in his tent to put them to sleep. Potter reads the US Army rifle maintenance manual to the kids in his tent. Klinger is in charge of the kids housed in the officer's bar. The kids think he is a woman. The pregnant Sung Lee (Haunani Minn) stumbles in (she was dropped by Meg earlier so she could visit her in-laws who lived just further up the road from the 4077), shot by a sniper; BJ, fresh from residency, gets to do the Caesarian. The bullet came very close to the baby. BJ stops the bleeding and goes for the baby after that. The baby survives, along with the mother. The baby has a little nick in his butt from the bullet. Incoming wounded are expected due to heavy night patrol action in their sector.

As the wounded hit the MASH, even Nurse Cratty scrubs up to help out in the Operating Room. Frank is obsessed with thievery (since the kids stole his stuff the last time they camped at the 4077) and so is not scrubbing up for surgery; the featherweight Father has to wrestle him to scrub on Potter's orders. When Frank finds his Purple Heart is missing, he suspects one of the kids whom he has seen hanging around the swamp more than once. But BJ confronts Frank and takes him to Post Op Hawkeye and BJ believe any baby who is shot in the rump on his own birthday is much more worthy and deserving of the honor. They steal the Purple Heart and have Potter award it to Sung Lee's new born baby. Margaret watches the entire ceremony, grinning from ear to ear. Frank recognizes his purple heart pinned to the baby, by Col Potter. He cant do anything about it now.

As Nurse Cratty and her brood leave, they are kissed and cuddled; the kids have made a very tired bunch of overworked heroes feel human again.
