Trama

The nurses return from evacuation to find that the doctors have left the camp a mess. Potter announces an inspection in two days, Margaret and the nurses try to get everything reorganized. Nurse Kellye is mad at Hawkeye for ignoring her.

All the nurses have been evacuated and the doctors must handle incoming casualties by themselves, leaving the O.R. and everything else in a mess. When the nurses returns, Colonel Potter announces that there will be an inspection in two days, so Major Houlihan gets very busy getting everything back in order for this.—Anonymous

The 4077th is preparing for a bug-out. All the nurses have been evacuated and the doctors are busy packing up the OR supplies and preparing to leave themselves. There are incoming wounded and now The doctors must handle incoming casualties by themselves, leaving the O.R. and everything else in a mess. Igor the cook has to play nurse and nobody is happy with the situation. Suddenly the Chinese are pulling back and news trickles in that the nurses will be back the same night. The guys rejoice.

When the nurses returns, Colonel Potter (Harry Morgan) announces that there will be an inspection by Col Bucholtz (Peggy Feury) in two days, so Major Houlihan (Loretta Swit) gets very busy getting everything back in order for this. Bucholtz is a very strict operator and is judging how long it takes for a MASH unit to settle down after they return from a bug-out. Bucholtz is known to lower ratings for the most obscure reasons like not being able to tell a sterile scalpel from one that is not sterile, just by looking at it. Houlihan is shocked to see the OR looking like a complete mess. Houlihan forces Potter to assign his doctors to help with the cleanup of the OR. Winchester has to scrape off plaster from the OR floor.

Hawkeye (Alan Alda) is busy flirting with all the nurses but ignores a fat nurse Kellye (Kellye Nakahara). Kelly is organizing a welcome back party at the Officer's club and invites everyone in camp to attend. Hawkeye is asked by Margaret to fix the autoclave (a machine used to sterilize all the instruments), since he was the one who broke it. After a day of grueling work, nurses are looking for time off, when Margaret asks for volunteers to clear dust from OR and post op. Kellye volunteers as she has no plans (all the other nurses have plans to go to the officers club). She finds Hawkeye still struggling with the autoclave. Kellye helps Hawkeye, and later both head over to the officer's club. Kellye asks Hawkeye for a dance. it is clear that Hawkeye is interested in the other nurses and is paying no attention to Kellye. She is deeply offended and quietly leaves the club.

The next day Kellye has a big fight with Hawkeye for ignoring her for not being blonde and tall and with a perky nose. She tells Hawkeye that he has been avoiding her like Typhoid Mary. Meanwhile Bucholtz finds everything as per military manuals, but wants even more perfection from Margaret, even better than the army manual. Margaret realizes how bad Bucholtz is making her feel, and realizes that this is how she makes everyone else feel on her staff. Bucholtz wants Margaret to clean up the supply room by the morning, but Margaret gives her nurses the night off.

Hawkeye sees Kellye spending time with a GI in his last minutes and comforting him as his girlfriend and realizes her inner beauty.. He apologizes to Kellye and finally shares a slow dance with her. Margaret passes the inspection.
