- Troop catches Jim Martin cheating at cards. When he draws against Dan, it's kill or be killed. When his wife and three sons come and bury the body they decide to now pay their respects to the marshal, the exact same way.
- Troop spots a card fall to the floor by Jim Martin Sr. indicating he is cheating at cards again. Troop gives his winnings to the other players and tells Jim to leave and never come back. As Troop walks out of the Birdcage, Martin pulls his gun, Jake yells, and Troop hits the floor as he fires and kills Martin. Ma Martin and her three boys pick up the body at the Marshal's office. Troop is out of town but Ma Martin tells Johnny the family will return for Troop. After burying Jim Sr., Ma tells the youngest Jim Jr. to take his dad's gun as he is the best shot. At the Birdcage the two older boys create a scene. Johnny tries to force them to leave. Jim Jr. stops them and shows Johnny and Lily he is the smartest and most reasonable of the group. Johnny gives Ma Martin until 3:30 pm to leave town with the boys but she refuses. Jim Jr. uncomfortable in his new role, tells Ma to forget revenge, drops his father's gun, and walks away. Sam Martin takes the gun and tries to shoot Johnny but Johnny wounds him first. He tells Ma to take the two boys and leave town as Jim Jr. leaves them.—Anonymous
