Sgt. Grevey and Det. Logan investigate a bombing at an abortion clinic that resulted in the death of 22 year-old Mary Donovan who was using the clinic's bathroom. In fact, Donovan was carrying false ID and it was she who used a basic pipe bomb to blow up the clinic. Donovan was a supporter of the Women for Life organization and the bomb materials are traced to Celeste McClure who likely made the bomb. They suspect Rose Schwimmer, head of the anti-abortion group of having ordered the attack. When they obtain startling new evidence, Schwimmer is charged with murder. Written by garykmcd

After the detectives find a bag of ammonium nitrate, they are told that as a fertilizer it is good only on tropical plants. This is false; ammonium nitrate is useful in all agricultural parts of the world and is preferred in areas well outside the tropics (including Sweden). See more »

Executive A.D.A. Ben Stone: What do you say to people who think somebody committed a criminal act, but don't think they're a criminal?
Paul Robinette: Easy, a criminal IS someone who commits a criminal act, no matter the reason.
Executive A.D.A. Ben Stone: But up until Roe V. Wade, the abortionists were the criminals. If the law hadn't changed, there wouldn't have been a bombing.
Paul Robinette: If the law hadn't changed, I would've been a slave. You can't turn back the clock.

The more fanatical elements
18 August 2017 | by See all my reviews

The more fanatical elements of the right to life movement are examined in this Law And Order story. A warning call is made, a women's clinic is evacuated and the bomb explodes.

The bomb kills its deliverer a believer in the cause who was also pregnant. What jumble of contradictions was going on in that mind. But the known associates of the bomber are revealed and they turn out to be a couple of women Bridgit Ryan and Caroline Kava. So fanatically devoted to their cause they kill for it.

Both are religious fanatics, especially Kava the ringleader of the conspiracy. A great example of what can happen when you take religion too seriously. No Moslem bomber has anything on her.

The case causes a serious divide between Chris Noth and the very Catholic George Dzundza. As bad as it got in that first season of the original detectives on the show.

Michael Moriarty beautifully nails Kava on the witness stand. That's worth watching this episode alone for.
