Slim is taking a herd of cattle to Cody, Wyoming to sell when he is fired upon by a young man causing him to be knocked out when he falls off his horse. After waking and telling the young man he is not from Cody, the man warns Slim that according to his dad there are no honest men in Cody. After selling his cattle for $500 at Cody he enters a saloon for a meal and drink. Ruth Franklin, working as a saloon girl, foils the plan by three men including the deputy, Ross, to rob Slim by spilling a drugged beer on him. Realizing she might be in danger, Slim follows her and knocks out Ross who tries to attack her. Afterward, she persuades Slim to come to her house and help her wounded father, who plans to return $50,000 that he embezzled from a Helena bank (but has never spent). Slim agrees to take them to Helena by wagon, but they are trailed by the same men who had earlier planned to rob Slim and now hope to take the money Mr. Franklin is carrying for themselves.
