I shot the sheriff and I took his identity
29 December 2017 | by See all my reviews

John McIntire guest stars in this Laramie episode in a role similar to one he played in the Richard Widmark movie Backlash where he was cast as Widmark's outlaw father. In this episode McIntire is an outlaw who seeks refuge with a daughter who only knows he's been away, not the kind of rogue he is.

In this story McIntire decides that if he has a price on his head why shouldn't he collect it? So he shoots the sheriff chasing him, far enough from the sheriff's jurisdiction and then switches identities and in the dark makes it look like Slim Sherman and Jess Harper shot him. With reward poster on the dead body, John Smith and Robert Fuller have a lot of found money.

Imagine their surprise when McIntire shows up at Sherman station and robs them of the reward money. And they're accused of murdering the sheriff.

Of course one of them takes off after McIntire. The rest of the story is similar to Backlash with Gloria Talbott as McIntire's daughter.

If you liked Backlash, you'll like this Laramie episode.
