Storyline

Slim has tracked money stolen from a stage by playing poker with a young Virg Walker at Cedar Bend. $20,000 was stolen and two men killed when the stage was robbed. Slim is able to ride off with Virg not realizing one of the other men in the game was one of the robbers who leaves to warn the rest of the gang. Slim finds Virg has $200 of new bills in serial number order that he is sure is part of the stolen money. Virg gives his word to not escape on the way to Laramie but at the first camp he tries to knock out Slim and escape. The fight is interrupted by the grizzled old prospector Cletus McBain who helps Slim after determining he believes Slim over Virg. That night when a rattlesnake nearly strikes the sleeping Slim, Virg yells and Cletus kills the snake. The next day Slim learns more about Virg on the road. They run into a young talkative girl, Ginny Malone, stranded with a broken wagon. They end up camping in a cave during a sand storm where Slim is blindsided the next morning. Written by Anonymous

It is extremely unlikely that a rattler would be out at night. With the sun down they don't get the warmth they need. Also, rattlers don't rattle unless they feel threatened. They're always coiled when rattling. See more »

Strange outlaw
15 January 2018 | by bkoganbingSee all my reviews

A stagecoach has been robbed and John Smith has the job of tracking down the bad guys. He gets a lead when during a poker game Jim McMullan flashes some new bills that could only come from the robbery. He makes an arrest and he is taking him back to Laramie.

For an outlaw McMullan behaves strangely including saving Slim Sherman's life. McMullan is the kid brother of a bad outlaw Gregg Palmer and it's him that John Smith really wants. Playing a part in all this is a real chatty Kathy type girlfriend of McMullan's, the future bat girl Yvonne Craig. Also around is old prospector Edgar Buchanan.

I think the behavior of some of these characters is a bit unrealistic given the circumstances of the plot as it developed. Not one of the better Laramie stories.
