***SPOILERS*** Inspector Robert T. Ironside, Raymond Burr, uses psychology and kindness not his usual police work to defuse a dangerous situation that by meeting it head on like the police want could turn deadly. This has to do with wild and out of control Mexican American student Manolo Rodriguez, A. Martinez, who after escaping from police cussedly in him admitting he'll start up the rev elution, against the hated gringos, singled handed and not be afraid of, and taking scores of innocent persons with him, dying in him doing it. Hold up and badly wounded his his headquarters Manolo has barricaded himself, Hitler Bunker style, there waiting for the final showdown with the police to end his life in a blaze of glory for good Ol Mexico.

With only his girlfriend Delores, Socorro Serrano, by his side but not ready to die with him it's Manolo war hero dad Manuel Rodriguez, Vito Scotti, who breaks through the police lines to get his crazy son to finally see the light and give himself up before he gets, together with Delores, blown away. Chief Ironside who's at the scene had the police hold their fire as father and son talk over what to do next in preventing any more blooded. Manolo who has nothing but contempt for his dad whom he calls a Uncle Taco or Uncle Tom in Spanish soon find out that his dad has more class as well as guts and machismo then he can ever dream of having. Pop faces down the barrel of his rifle and never blinks and convinces Manuel that his ways of freeing his people, Mexican Americans, will only end up destroying them.

****SPOILERS**** Tense but touching final with poor wounded and a bit confused Manolo finally seeing the light in the crazy things that he's been doing for his people being just out and out crazy as well as fatal and nothing else. And it was Ironside who finally, by putting his life on the line, got Manolo to put an end to his craziness by throwing his rifle, not shooting it, at Chief Ironside to finally end the deadly stand off with then police.
