    More Izzie
After displaying more humanity than is usually granted to a character whose first job was modeling, Izzie Stevens gets another chance to deepen in this episode, confirming once more even the show's writers have realized the supporting cast is much better than the heroine.

To their credit, though, they try to make Meredith more likable by introducing two new problems: firstly, she has been instructed to take care of her mother's assets, and needs to make a tough decision; furthermore, she thinks she might have inadvertently caused the death of a patient during heart surgery. Of course, that's only a small part of the episode, most of the focus being on the private life of two interns: one is Izzie, who is throwing a party at Meredith's house to celebrate the return of her boyfriend, the other is Cristina, who eventually accepts to embark on a relationship with Burke.

It's not hard to guess which aspect of the show is more appealing (the medical side of scripts is largely irrelevant throughout the first season), and therefore it's inevitable that Meredith once again comes off as the least interesting person in the series. That said, she does strike a more sympathetic note this time thanks to her possible implication in another person's demise, although the novelty is quickly overshadowed by the omnipresent, excruciating narration (thank God, then, for Patrick Dempsey, who always comes to the rescue).

Izzie, on the other hand, is likely to gain even more sympathy from viewers, as she effectively reverses the rumor according to which all models are, well, shallow when it comes to their love life (and everything else, but that's beside the point). Heigl doesn't pull off as remarkable a turn as she did in the previous episode, but it's still enough to keep the audience interested.
