Did you know
- TriviaGidget says that her custom surf board cost her dad $110. In 2019 dollars that would be $900!
- GoofsCasey, the motorcycle cop, played by Arthur Adams, tells Gidget that the theft of her surfboard is grand theft, a legal description of a theft that meets a certain monetary threshold. In California, in 1966, when this episode originally aired, grand theft occurred when the value of the item was more than $200. Gidget claims her board was worth $110, which would put it below the threshold, thus making the theft petty instead of grand.
Featured review
First and foremost, Gidget's beloved surfboard (in today's dollars) would be worth 1,000 dollars. Not too shabby. The question remains... where did she get the mazuma?
A way goofy episode; Gidget's surf board is stolen and now in the possession of a voodoo fortune teller? There's naturally a war of words and the old lady puts hex on on Gidge. OMG.
Now she has to find a way to get rid of the spell, and its not EZ. Jeanne Gerson plays Zangara, the fortune teller, who owns a real cool van, perhaps an inspiration to the PARTRIDGE FAMILY bus? Gerson was Russian and appeared in many cult films, including the THE TEN COMMANDMENTS.
Gidget's dad is always the ship anchor, and especially in a mess like this. There's a couple of wacky scenes; making a mess out of the kitchen and Gidget's attempts (with black vail or towel) to get rid of all the REALLY bad vibes. Way funny.
Aside from everything else. Don Porter's yellow convertible is one smooth ride, future muscle car. Sadly, Gidget's famous house was torn down in 2023 along with the rest of the famous Burbank lot to make way for new offices and sound stages. Never forgotten.
Directed by the EW Swackhamer, behind a ton of classic tv shows. Another camp episode. SEASON 1 EPISODE 18. Remastered color dvd box set.
