Anne (Betty Conner) arrives to the Lawrence household to inform her father (Don Porter) and sister Gidget (Sally Field) that she has left her husband John (Peter Duel). Anne says it is because John has largely ignored her for the past six months in place of his psychological studies. Anne quickly begins interfering in Gidget's life. Gidget had previously called in to the radio station to correctly answer "what is the 50th state and it's famous dance?". She disappointingly won a free dance lesson and now receives a call from Mark Hillman (Dick Gautier, "Hymie" from "Get Smart") of Glamorous You Dance Studios. She finds the man is tall, dark, and handsome and agrees to the lesson with an ulterior motive. Gidget goes to John to try to get him to come see Anne- secretly at the same time her dance instructor will be there. Gidget's father cautions her that Anne is having real problems that affects more than just herself and to not meddle. However, it is too late to cancel her scheme. Predictably, John shows up and becomes irate. Seeing that she has made matters worse, Gidget tries to work the scheme on the other foot, sending a female dance instructor to John. She then locks Anne in her closet, so John can show up and save her. Gidget gets a well-deserved spanking, but can Anne and John work things out?
The predicament of the scheme had a very easy resolution, which with the predictability hurt the plot in my eyes.
