- George (Brian Murphy) has put his goldfish in the sink while he has been creating his usual mess while Mildred (Yootha Joyce) was away. Depressed, he goes to a pet shop, where he ends up buying two pigeons to train them for the races. George is buiding a pigeonhouse, but his posh neighbour Jeffrey Fourmile (Norman Eshley) reports him to the city council, which will do nothing about it. However, Jeffrey has promised to wife Anne (Sheila Fearn) and son Tristram (Nicholas Bond-Owen) to eat his hat if the city hall people don't pay attention to him, so Anne cooks an old hat for him. When he is about to eat it, Jeffrey realises it's just beef stew.
The pigeons come back to their master, the pet shop owner Clayton (Norman Mitchell), who would sell them to the next naïve shopper. Mildred buys another goldfish for George, called Moby II.
