  • On their 8th anniversary of living together, Frasier accidentally destroys Martin's recliner. Niles discovers Daphne has no talent for music.
  • It's been eight years since Martin moved in with Frasier, and the realization of that fact has irked Frasier. This sparks a series of spats between the two, which comes to a head when Martin accidentally ruins the carpet. Frasier's belief that "there is no such thing as an accident" leads him to accuse Martin of a sub-consciously malicious act. However, when Frasier unwittingly burns Martin's favorite chair, the shoe ends up on the other foot.—Anonymous
  • Frasier and Martin have been sharing the apartment for 8 years now and they are getting on each other's nerves. If anything, they are acting like an old married couple, constantly bickering and sniping at each other. When Martin accidentally spills oil on the carpet, Frasier accuses him of doing it on purpose, telling his father there are no accidents. Mayhem breaks loose when Frasier accidentally destroys Martin's chair. Niles meanwhile tries to teach Daphne to play the piano. Roz tags along and is a quick learner but Daphne is struggling. Niles wonders what he's got himself into when he learns that she's had lessons before.—garykmcd
  • Over breakfast one morning, Martin happens to comment to Frasier that the day marks the eighth anniversary of the day that Martin moved in with him. The revelation makes Frasier unusually touchy, especially towards his father. His temper worsens when Martin accidentally spills oil over the carpet when trying to remedy a squeak in his recliner; Frasier irrationally views the accident as a deliberate act of hostility on Martin's part. He moves the furniture onto the balcony while the carpet is replaced, and the chair, positioned underneath a telescope in direct sunlight, catches fire. When the brothers notice, their efforts to put it out only serve to knock the chair off the balcony. Ill-disposed to take a positive view of the situation after Frasier's recent behaviour, Martin angrily accuses him of deliberately destroying the chair in retaliation. When the hostility between father and son reaches the point where the two are no longer speaking, Niles decides to use his experience as a couples therapist to mediate. Frasier has an exact, new replica of Martin's old chair built. Daphne has expressed an interest in playing the piano, so Niles offers to give her lessons. He also agrees to teach Roz, who picks up the technique much more quickly than Daphne. Niles is willing to persevere with Daphne, until he hears that she has been taught before, and her last teacher committed suicide.

Descrizione

  • It's been 8 years since Martin moved in with Frasier in his apartment in Seattle, and the others make a small joke about this, much to Frasier's ire. Frasier's mood continues to sour when Martin attempts to oil his chair, and accidentally gets oil on the carpet. Frasier's temper explodes and he claims that Martin spilled the oil as a way to upset him.

Daphne then takes Martin out for a walk, while Frasier and Niles watch as the stained carpet is completely removed, putting the living room furniture on the balcony. As the two brothers talk, a telescope ends up making Martin's chair catch fire. Both Frasier and Niles try to put the fire out, but the chair ends up falling off the balcony, landing right in front of Martin, Daphne, and Eddie, disintegrating before their eyes.

Needless to say, Martin is upset at Frasier, feeling that Frasier most likely destroyed his chair out of frustration at him. After encountering Frasier at Cafe Nervosa, Niles and Frasier have a chat about why Frasier has been feeling so ill-tempered recently. The two surmise that it could be because Frasier is upset that in the last 8 years, the only stable relationship he's had is with his Dad, versus with a member of the opposite sex.

Some time later, Frasier returns home to find Martin waiting with a wrapped item in place of his old chair. Frasier is surprised when Martin pulls off the cover, and a leather arm-chair is revealed. Martin explains that he made sure to pick out something Frasier would like, but the mood takes another turn when some movers appear with another sheet-wrapped chair.

Everyone in the room is unsure what to do, but their attitude then turns to shock when Frasier pulls off the cloth, revealing a chair exactly like Martin's old one! Frasier explains that the chair was custom-made by referencing old photographs, with the upholstery made by the original company. Due to the specialty-creation of the chair, it has now become the most expensive piece of furniture in the household. Niles is proud of what Frasier has done, but Frasier isn't finished. To celebrate, he offers to take Martin to anywhere he'd like to go. Martin suggests a steakhouse, and Daphne and Niles accompany the two as well.

Over the credits, we see Eddie approach the familiar but new chair. After seeming apprehensive, he soon accepts it just as he did Martin's old one.
