The last episode of the series is a two part focused on the kids moving on with their lives. With Sandy going off to Coast Guard school, Bud is being sent to Boston to get an education in oceanography. The dad who couldn't afford to send one child to school, it seems, is suddenly able to send both. And he wasts no time in emptying his next. This is a bit sad...

And it seems that the producers and writer wrote this with ending the series in mind. Introduced are two young children of a widow and their dog who find themselves in trouble when they take a boat full of holes out onto the ocean. The Ricks' and coast guard start looking for them, but it seems helpless. It seems they may be finding a new family for Flipper.
