Storyline

The Doctor and Rose set out on their first adventure together since the Doctor regenerated. The Doctor takes Rose to see the Planet New Earth, colonized by the human race since the destruction of the original planet Earth. On arriving the Doctor receives an invitation to visit a hospital run by the sisters of plenitude. A sisterhood of cat-women nuns who have the uncanny ability to cure so many long thought incurable diseases. But as the Doctor and Rose discover there is a sinister method as to how the Sisterhood manage to develop such cures. While unknown to them both an old enemy thought to be deceased, awaits the Time lord and his companion. Written by Robert McElwaine

Trivia

Russell T. Davies wrote this episode because Billie Piper requested that she would be given a comic role in the new season, as a counterpoint to the often very serious material she had tackled the year before. See more »

Goofs

When the Doctor and Rose get into separate elevators to go visit the Face of Boe, the Doctor gets into the left one and Rose into the right. The Doctor gets off at the proper floor from the left elevator. But Rose (being abducted to the lower level by Chip) also gets out of the left elevator, instead of the right one like she should. A weak beginning
24 May 2006 | by markianhlynkaSee all my reviews

This was a weak beginning to season 2. The plot seems formulaic and more than a bit hollow. Evil returns, unintentional evil, and evil for the greater good. Not to mention the silliness of The Doctor's final solution. Some interesting insights from the Face of Boe, but even these seemed tacked-on for the sake of interest. Any of episodes 2, 3, or 4 would have made a better beginning to the season. This episode just seems a non-starter.

On the subject of technical inconsistency, why does Cassandra need her fancy illegal machinery only once, after which she can achieve the same results with an effort of will! Sorry, but this episode is uninspiring.
