Trivia

The script originally called for the Doctor to threaten one of the tribesmen with a knife. Tom Baker refused to threaten someone with a weapon and instead substituted it for a jelly baby, much to Philip Hinchcliffe's annoyance who wasn't present at the day's filming. See more »

Quotes

[first lines]
[the Doctor steps out of the TARDIS alone. He then turns to camera and muses aloud to himself]
The Doctor: I think this is not Hyde Park. Could be a nexial discontinuity. Must remember to overhaul those tracers. Put a knot in my hanky.
[He pulls out his hanky, which already has a knot tied in it!]
The Doctor: Wonder what that was for! A little look around, Doctor? Why not.

A great start, a great new companion.

The Doctor lands on a strange planet inhabited by the Savage race, The Sevateem.

I have always enjoyed this story, the first episode is particularly good, it's a great story, with multiple points of interest, The Evil one, Xoanon and of course the introduction of Leela.

I think the sets looks great, they manage to appear large and spacious, but are so well dressed, reminiscent of the first Dalek story and Planet of Evil. I'm not sure if chunks of this were done on film, but it looks terrific.

Tom breaks the rule of the fourth wall, but because he's Tom, he gets away with it, only he could have.

Great start. 9/10
