The title is based upon the reply by General Anthony Clement McAuliffe to the German Army's request for the surrender of the American troops trapped in Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944: "Nuts!"
    • Quotes

Earl Sinclair: Fran, can you bring some more pistachios in here?

Fran Sinclair: We're all out, Earl.

      Earl Sinclair: What?

Fran Sinclair: That was the last jar.

Earl Sinclair: Fran, I don't ask for much from you. A clean house, three square meals a day, gardening, raising the kids, a little light plumbing, scheduled maintenance on the car. So when I ask you to keep a few pistachios on hand, I think maybe you can take a little time to get out of your bubble bath and get down to the market.

    great episode
i am and will forever be a life long fan of dinosaurs--it is the first show i ever remember i rushed home to school early to watch everyday and i still have most of the old MacDonald happy meal toys of all the characters-as i look back on the show now i also realize that it was a very smart clever show. this particular episode-nuts to war: part 1 was a two part episode and one of the greatest episodes in the whole series i believe. basically, in the 2 episodes the two legged dinosaurs and the four legged dinosaurs start a war over peanuts (a brand of peanuts earl is very fond of) so much that he practically forces his son Robby to go off to war in order to save his peanuts from the hated "four leggers". one thing i remember strongly about these particular episodes were the opening credits--they were made to parody cheesy war movies/drama shows with each character getting a nick name (like Fran was 'Fran Sinclair as the mother')but the show also had a deeper meaning (some references to Vietnam and war vets, learn to love what you have while you have it; a lesson earl naturally learns in the end when he realizes Robby means more to him than the peanuts (earl learns this in episode two).

i suggest you watch this episode or any episode if you haven't checked out the show. there are still video tapes of the show with two episodes each on there and there is a DVD coming out this spring which i believe seasons 1 and 2 so nuts to war 1 and 2 should be included
