The scene where Rob gets off his horse and then discovers he's left his boot in the stirrup was the only time that a sequence of "The Dick Van Dyke Show" (which normally was shot in front of a live in-studio audience) was filmed in an exterior location. The scene was filmed on the same lot used by the series "Gunsmoke".
This was the last episode to be filmed, and virtually everyone associated with the show in any way has a cameo appearance.
The two cowboys standing in front of the jail, briefly shown in a close-up as they react to Rob retrieving his boot from the stirrup, are played by Bill Persky and Sam Denoff. Persky and Denoff were the "unlikely saviors" of producer Carl Reiner, who was getting burned out after writing nearly all of the episodes for the first two seasons and also having to produce the show. The pair submitted a spec script to Reiner, "That's My Boy??" which became the premiere episode for the third season. They took on a larger and larger role as writers thereafter, and even took over as the show's producers for several weeks during the final season while Reiner was in Northern California filming "The Russians Are Coming! The Russians Are Coming!"
Garry Marshall portrays the saloon bartender in this episode
Dick Van Dyke's friend, personal assistant, and oft-used bit player, Frank Adamo, is not to be denied an appearance in this last episode, despite being uncredited even amongst his many uncredited DVD roles. Sharp-eyed viewers can spot Adamo very briefly dressed as a Buffalo Bill type gambler seated near the saloon's stage. Adamo appeared in roughly a third of the episodes, usually uncredited.
