The Grass Man

David Douglas (1799-1834) was an English botanist who made three separate expeditions to North America: 1823, 1824-1827, and 1829-1833. His second excursion was his most successful, and he introduced 240 species of plants to England, including many coniferous (pinecone) trees that transformed the British landscape and timber industry [no word on whether he had a yappy dog or met English-speaking Indians].
