"The Empty Gun" is an episode of Cheyenne starring Clint Walker, Audrey Totter, and John Russell. Cheyenne is asked by Matt Reardon, a gunfighter, to help him with a mission after he rescues Cheyenne from a fight. Reardon wants to repay a debt to the widow of the first man he killed who was also his partner. Her son gets in the way.

Cheyenne is riding on a cold and stormy night looking for shelter and a hot meal. He comes upon a grave being dug. A man, Matt Reardon, who shot its soon-to-be tenant arrives. The two ride off together talking. Reardon tells Cheyenne that Moundsville is the closest place for a meal and room which is where he is headed. Reardon takes their horses to the stable while Cheyenne enters the saloon for a hot drink. Three men at the bar start threatening the diminutive bartender Miklos. When Cheyenne tries to help, the three men threaten him but Reardon enters with a rifle stopping them. He finds out that Reardon has regrets and a 12-year old debt he needs to pay before anyone finds out he's no longer the same gunslinger he used to be. He offers to pay Cheyenne $300 to help but Cheyenne wants no money. The next day they pay a visit to a widow Martha Fullerton and her son Mike.
