Our Hourly Bread (#6.21)
ComedyFan20104 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Woody, Sam and Carla try to get a raise but Rebecca only gives them titles because the bar is on the verge of bankruptcy. To save it Woody comes up with the idea for the raffle to win a Caribbean cruise. Only he pulls the number where he isn't sure if it is 99 or 66. And they need to find a way to satisfy both customers.

An episode with many funny moments. It already starts when Woody goes into Rebecca's office to compliment "the first thing that he sees" which is her bum, I am just surprised Woody was smart enough not to say it! I am also happy about the sob story scene. If they had Rebecca cry her way out because she is a woman I would be a bit upset, but they made it all very fun and not gender based.

ONE WEIRD THING ABOUT THIS EPISODE
talula10604 December 2019
Great episode but Norm keeps asking for free drinks which got old. It was also very strange that he kept shouting about free drinks during the raffle when he knew that the bar was on the edge of bankruptcy. Why would Norm, who loved the bar and would hate to see it close, stir the crowd into demanding free drinks? The whole point of the raffle was to get more money into the bar. That seemed extremely out of character for Norm. Woody or Cliff I could see doing it because they were slow enough to miss the point. But Norm the former accountant? Just seemed almost like he wanted to sabotage the raffle.

It also seemed strange that nobody brought up the fact that when Sam was running the bar, it never had money trouble. I would think Mr Drake would immediately look into putting Sam in charge of the bar again since he clearly was a better manager...

This episode involves efforts to save the bar, which is on the verge of bankruptcy. Sam comes up with the idea of a raffle to bring money in. It would entail a first prize of a Caribbean cruise. The results of this effort leads to some interesting consequences.

Bar Going Bankrupt
Bolesroor29 April 2011
Warning: Spoilers
It's only after Sam, Woody and Carla ask for raises that Rebecca reveals the bar is teetering on the verge of bankruptcy. Obviously nothing brings financial stability like a one-time Caribbean-themed raffle, and away we go! The B-story is Frasier buying a "Tidwell" painting for Lilith, which somehow becomes the booby prize after the raffle is botched by the brain-damaged Woody. It's not exactly a smooth blending of the two stories, and it's not exactly a great episode either, but it'll do. Check out Cliff's "mexican hat dance" while the steel drums play.

NOTE: This is the season in which the show switched over almost entirely to a laugh track, which features the infamous aggressive, abbreviated, throat-clearing man's laugh that would be used until the series' end. This was convenient for a show with so many jokes to fit in because the laughter came on strong and disappeared quickly.

GRADE: B-
