Storyline

Genius M.I.T. professor and computer geek Marshall Lipton informs Sam and Coach that he knows that the Celtics will lose tonight's game based on a trend he's tracked on his computer. Sam and Coach decide to do what they consider the sure thing by placing a bet against the Celtics, sacrilege in Boston. Is Marshall's prediction actually a sure thing as is a lynching if anyone finds out that they bet against a Boston team? Meanwhile, Diane is distraught to learn that Elizabeth Barrett Browning, her family cat, has passed away. What upsets her equally is the fact that no one in the bar has any understanding of her as a person, this lack of empathy just the latest manifestation. Especially as it relates to Sam, this reaction may be the last straw for Diane who contemplates walking out of Cheers for good. Written by Huggo

It was maybe the worst night of my life. Believe it or not, I actually thought about throwing myself in the lake. But then I looked down at this cat in my lap and I thought, Who would take care of ...
