Storyline

In the years before World War II, a young Dutch painter's career is ruined by a scathing review by the leading art critic in The Netherlands. The critique launches the painter on a new path - creating lost paintings in the style of the old masters and passing them off as the genuine article. He sells one such painting, allegedly a Vermeer, to a German field marshal. After the war, he is arrested and tried for selling a national treasure to the enemy and must convince the court that he is guilty of committing a hoax, not treason. Written by David Bassler
