Campion and Lugg agree to help a prominent British family protect the Gryth Chalice from a gang of thieves and cutthroats. In addition to the flesh and blood threats, an aunt dies after being cursed by the village witch and Lugg is attacked by a monster in the woods. Written by David Bassler
Peter Davison after playing a vet, time lord and a harassed doctor turned detective in the tail end of the 1980s.
This introduction to Albert Campion and his manservant Lugg was exquisitely made but lukewarm.
Campion needs to find a vagrant who is in fact from a wealthy family who fell out with his father.
Campion needs to find Val Gyrth because an international gang of thieves plan to steal the valuable Gyrth Chalice.
Davison brings humour to Campion. It seem he and Lugg are resourceful but maybe not always on the straight and narrow.
I think the Campion of the books is supposed to be a bit bland. This first instalment of a two part story was equally bland.
