Although it is a crew member burned in fire in the episode, this episode draws on the pit fire that happened to Rick Mears at the 1981 Indy 500. No one knew he was on fire because methanol, the fuel used in Indy cars, burns clear. Fortuntely, he recovered and continued his storied career.

Delko says, the pop-off valve inhibits engine revs. It does not. A pop-off valve inhibits intake pressure. A rev limiter is used to inhibit engine revs.
