Simon Pegg steals the show!

Fran returns from a holiday in Cornwall to find that Manny has quit and the book shop is in total disarray. Bernard just sits around sulking. Manny is working next door at Goliath Books. It's quite the step-up from Black Books in terms of professionalism and the manager is a bit of a pain.

Season 3 hits the ground running with an excellent episode. Yes, we've had an episode of Manny leaving before but that was nothing like this. The banter is off the charts and Bernard's slovenliness and resulting squalor are next-level.

However, it is the appearance of Simon Pegg as Manny's new boss Evan that takes this to the next level. Black Books rarely has anyone other than the three main characters with more than a few lines, certainly never a fourth character that is on a par with the Big Three. Here, however, is the exception. Evan has a good deal of screentime and some fantastic lines and Simon Pegg's intense, creepy performance ensures he steals the show.
