The scam Bernard is embroiled in involves "Lovebombing", where someone is intrigued and flattered by the personal interest and then drawn in by the promise of a wider circle of supposedly like-minded friends, and then is fleeced.

Goofs
At the start of the episode Manny has placed a bet for Bernard and himself in the Grand National. The next scene shows Bernard reading a copy of the Racing Post. The headline refers to European horses being given a bad draw in a race. Said race would have been the Breeders Cup, which is run in November. The Grand National takes place in April.
