Darrin feels they have no other option but to purchase a newfangled electronic garage door opener when Gladys Kravitz witnesses Samantha opening their manual garage door using witchcraft. But because of an installation problem, the electronic garage door seems to have a mind of its own, opening and closing at will (but which is really affected by radio waves from aircraft passing over their house). When Samantha finds out that her mother is not behind the garage door's problems, she can't come up with a plausible explanation besides the door being faulty. Darrin, on the other hand, doesn't believe Samantha, as he believes her "lies" about the door are so they can return it and use the money for other purposes. Darrin's belief places a wedge between himself and Samantha. The malfunctioning door and the nosy Kravitz's may affect how this issue is resolved in the Stephens household.
