Priests in Jersey must be on a good wage if Bergerac thinks they might be driving around in a Mercedes.
On the eve of a society wedding. The church is broken into, the register stolen and the young priest is attacked. Two young backpackers are suspected of the crime.
Bergerac delves into the background of Sarah Mitchell, the mother of the bride. With Charlie Hungerford's help, he finds out that she was a Czech wartime refugee who made her way to the top. Marrying into wealth helped.
Bergerac also suspects that the sinister man seen in a white Mercedes is a past association of Sarah.
It was about time Bergerac came across the toffs of Jersey. They have not featured prominently so far except for one or two of Charlie's associates.
Nothing too much by way of tense action. There was a nice rendition of a Beatles tune at the church.
