Harris finishes his book "Precinct Diary"

"The Slave" is a relatively serious episode, as both Wojo and Harris become deeply involved with a traffic case where a Mercedes driven by Arlene Kenton (Peg Shirley) is struck by one driven by William Nu (Sumant). His Mercedes is registered to the Burmese Delegation, whose Agricultural Consultant, Philip Azari (Manu Tupou), is revealed through debt bondage to be Nu's owner. Lane Parks (Stanley Kamel, first of two), is the United Nations liaison for Azari, who hopes to dismiss the charges (driving without a license, leaving the scene of an accident) by way of diplomatic immunity. Harris defines the terms of debt bondage: "it's an ancient form of loan sharking...what happens is a man borrows money, and then he attempts to pay it back in physical labor...but the way the system is set up, the obligation just keeps increasing, and the debt passes on from one generation to another generation to another" (in this case, 102 years!). Meanwhile, Inspector Luger drops by after attending his late comrade's funeral, worried that he'll be the next to be put out to pasture by the department. The book that Harris has been writing for over a year, "Precinct Diary," is now finished, and submitted to some of the 'better' publishers (Harris: "I'm bracing for a bidding war!" Barney: "they can be messy!").
