We have here Brock Peters - one of the most underrated Black actor in Hollywood - who informs Baretta that a female informer of the police is still alive whilst she was supposed to be dead. As I will say over and over all long this TV show I intend to comment, you have here the so typical seventies atmosphere. The decade during which you had the most crime shows of the TV industry. And you have a famous seventies supporting actor: Ed Lauter and his so familiar face that no one never forgets. For the rest, nothing really special in this episode. So, don't expect too much folks. some light touch in this tale, not entirely a brutal crime scheme.

Good Baretta - Robert Blake - vehicle.

Woman in the Harbor

A parole officer friend meets Baretta. He tells Baretta that he has seen his former parolee, Virginia Marriott alive in Mexico. She was thought to have died in a suicide some months earlier.

Soon after the parole officer is run over and killed. Beretta wants to find the killer.

Baretta goes to see retired cop Ed Borgue, who signed off on Virginia's death certificate. Borgue is now living the high life.

However Baretta is soon abducted by some goons and beaten up.

I guess the bruises might be the reason why Baretta puts on a blackface to hide them. He really puts on several disguises in this episode such as a masseur, a cowboy and a hippie singer. It is even a bit risque as Baretta explores the world of brothels. Baretta discovers that Virginia was a bag carrier who went missing with a lot of money.

There is a good cast including Brock Peters and Ed Lauter. A good gritty episode but the villain is a bit obvious.

Just seeing Blake appear in blackface as well as impersonate a Mexican is some remarkable history. His idiot cowboy is also a memorable obnoxious creation. Plot is thin and Ed Lauter's revealed plot twist is uninspired. Not very good action direction either, but the focus on Baretta's backstory is still interesting.
