    Forward Mr. Grainger

While it's lovely to see Arthur Brough get more to do as Mr Grainger this isn't one of my favourite episodes.

The reason for this is that it really is just Mr Grainger being bossy to everyone and then getting his comeuppance.

It has its moments, but it's an episode I'd skip next time.

    Grainger the tyrant.

Mr Rumbold heads off to Swansea on a Sales and Management course for one month, the board make the decision to put Mr Grainger in charge, much to the dismay of the enraged Captain Peacock. Mr Grainger, normally placid and mild mannered transforms into a tyrant, running the department with a rod of iron, but every summer has a winter, and it's not long before Mr Rumbold returns from Swansea.

Forward Mr Grainger has to be one of my favourite episodes, it's very different in tone, and it's nice to see Arthur Borough getting a more meaty role, he's brilliant in this episode. The scene where he gets his comeuppance is a great one, I love how the team get their revenge on him.

It's a brilliant episode, very funny, with some excellent character play. It's evident watching this that the cast had plenty of fun with this one. A shame Isabella Rye (Secretary) didn't get more episodes.

    • Trivia
After Mr. Rumbold returns near the end of the show, Mr. Grainger asks his co-workers in the canteen, "I'm not being sent to Coventry, am I." This is a British expression meaning to deliberately ostracize someone.

[Mr Rumbold's secretary is topping up Mr Grainger's drink]

Mr. Grainger: [angrily] All right, don't drown it! And get that skirt altered.

Secretary: Ooh, er, how much longer, Mr Grainger?

      Mr. Grainger: Make it shorter!
