    Coffee Morning

'AYBS?' hadn't really hit its peak at this point, with the cast not quite in full flow, and some of the catchphrases still not fully established.

It's nice to see Mr Grainger having more of a role in the storyline though here, and what Mr Mash brought to the proceedings.

It's not one of my favourite episodes though.

When does a coffee break commence?

Being the ever efficient company man that he is, Captain Peacock takes exception to the staff taking liberties with their coffee breaks and decides to make an example out of poor old Mr Grainger.

This is a great example of the show in its heyday, it's original, funny and very slick. Full of cleverly written, snappy dialogue, including the great moment where Captain Peacock reads a memo, 'From the DM/CR to FW/L and GD/SP re:tea,' to which Mrs Slocombe replies 'Captain Peacock what language are you speaking?' it's brilliantly done.

It's also an episode that gives an important snapshot into what working life was like for ordinary working people in the seventies, the power of the unions, the downing of tools etc, the show didn't go into this too much, so it's pretty unique.

    A gem 9/10

Mr. Mash: I tell you brothers, I am really proud of you. The go slow this morning was 100% effective! I think we put the wind up the management alright!

Mrs. Slocombe: And if you don't go slow on that apple crumble, you'll get the wind up somewhere else!
