This marked the first appearance of Maude's husband Walter, as played by Bill Macy. Macy would continue the role when Maude (1972) would debut the following September.

Even though Chester was "buried at sea", he was alive in a Maude episode, "Maude and Chester" played by Martin Balsam, the future Murray Klein of Archie Bunker's Place.
